Rod couplers

Splicing is not always the best way to join steel bars in reinforced concrete reinforcement. The use of Ancon Leviat couplers simplifies the design and construction of reinforced concrete structures and reduces the amount of reinforcement required.

Description

The range marketed by Cortartec offers all types of couplers for a wide variety of situations involving the continuity of reinforcing bars, including different types of construction projects, formwork systems, and reinforcement density, among others. These couplers provide solutions for reinforcement needs at any stage of construction or throughout the service life of each project.

The Ancon CTT tapered-thread coupler range is designed for use with cryogenic-grade reinforcing bars. In construction projects such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanks, EN 14620-3.

Tapered Thread Couplers

Ancon tapered thread couplers are designed to address most applications requiring the connection of reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete. The ends of the bar are squared off, and a tapered groove is cut into the bar to accommodate the coupler. It is then tightened onto the bar using a calibrated torque wrench.

STANDARD COUPLING

The standard tapered threaded coupling is suitable for connecting two bars of the same diameter, where one bar can be rotated. It consists of a sleeve with an internal thread featuring two right-hand threads that taper toward the center of the coupling. The ends of the bars are cut straight, and a tapered thread is cut into the bar. A nominal tolerance of +25 mm per threaded bar end must be allowed to cut the bar end straight. The couplers are generally tightened onto the reinforcement bar in the threading shop, with the internal threads protected by plastic caps at the ends. The threaded ends of the extension bar are protected by plastic thread protectors.
Inserting the bar into the coupler is simplified by the tapered thread design, which aids alignment.
Once the bar is fully inserted into the coupling, the extension bar is tightened using
a torque wrench.
The Leviat Ancon standard tapered thread coupling is designed to meet the requirements of BS 8110 and achieve breaking loads in excess of 115% of the characteristic strength of Grade 460 reinforcing bar.

TESTING AND APPROVALS
The standard range of tapered threaded couplers has been tested and approved by UK
CARES for compliance with the requirements of BS 8110.
The most common sizes have been tested and approved by DIBt and are
covered by Approval No. Z-1.5-179.
Ancon tapered threaded couplers meet the requirements of KIWA document BRL 0504
“Mechanical Steel Reinforcement Couplers” and have been awarded KOMO Certificate No.
K23495/02.
Full destructive tests were performed to demonstrate compliance with BNFL
