CORTARTEC MASTERSTOP (swelling) bentonite-based hydro-expansive waterstops exhibit hydrophilic behavior. They consist of expandable fibers that swell to up to 16 times their original size upon contact with water or moisture, thereby sealing concrete joints and filling voids, cracks, and irregularities. Since the joints are hydro-expansive, it is essential to keep them dry during concrete placement, so they should be applied as close as possible to that time. Hydro-expansive bentonite waterstop joints are easily applied by bonding them to the concrete surface using a COR POWER adhesive designed for this purpose or, alternatively, with a COR SWELLING steel mesh profile nailed to the concrete using hand-driven nails or a nail gun. They should be positioned at the center of the concrete reinforcement.
